Boca Raton Championship Becoming Charles Schwab Cub Event

For the past 13 years, the Boca Raton Championship at Broken Sound has been a staple on the PGA Tour Champions. The tournament has changed names and the Tour that it is played on has even changed its name, but every February the Tour has kicked off its season in Boca Raton with its first full-field event.

Beginning in 2020 though, that will change.

On Tuesday, the PGA Tour Champions announced that the Boca Raton Championship would be leaving its February spot on the schedule for a spot in the coveted Charles Schwab Cup Playoff rotation.

Taking the spot previously held by the Invesco QQQ Championship, the Boca event will welcome the top 54 players on the Charles Schwab Cub standings to The Old Course at Broken Sound for the 2nd of the three playoff events. As a result of its move to the playoffs, the tournament purse will also increase from $1.7 million to $2 million.

“The Boca Raton community has supported PGA TOUR Champions for over a decade, and the city’s enthusiasm and support make it a great place to host a Charles Schwab Cup Playoffs event,” Miller Brady, President of PGA TOUR Champions said in a statement released by the Tour. “Fans will continue to get unprecedented access to the game’s legends while watching them compete for one of the year’s most prestigious titles.”

The tournament will continue to be managed by Pro Links Sports, with Boca Raton Champions Golf Charities, Inc., serving as the 501(c)(3) host organization of the Boca Raton Championship.

The 2020 edition of the Boca Raton Championship will once again be held at The Old Course at Broken Sound October 26 through November 1.
