Abraham Ancer wants to face Tiger Woods in Presidents Cup

Abraham Ancer is a solid golfer in his own right, but the 28-year-old Presidents Cup rookie may have just opened himself up to a world of punishment.

Ancer had this to say during his presser at the Mayakoba Golf Classic about the upcoming Presidents Cup:

“I would like to play against Tiger (Woods),” Ancer said. “But the truth is that our objective is to do everything we can to win. Winning a match in the singles would be very special, so we need to try to get the cup.”

That doesn’t seem to be a radical statement and I imagine if I were a young professional golfer I would like to play against Tiger Woods as well because…he’s Tiger. Win or lose, at least you can say you either beat the GOAT or played against the GOAT.

Tiger, on the other hand, may feel slighted by Ancer (36th in the OWGR with no PGA Tour wins) straight up saying that he wants to play against him.

We all know what happened the last time someone called out Tiger in a match play event, right?

Stephen Ames sure does.

Watch a longer video here.

Tiger, who has climbed from 688th in the OWGR at the end of the 2017 season to seventh as of this week, won his 82nd tournament in Japan in October and his 15th major championship earlier this year at the Masters.

Is that really a guy you want to underestimate?

Be careful what you wish for.

The International team has won the Presidents Cup only one time, in 1998 at Royal Melbourne where the event is being held this year. The US leads 10-1-1 overall.
