Tiger, Brooks, Frankie Molinari Paired Together at PGA Championship

PGA Championship

While the PGA Championship is moving to May and becoming the second major championship on the schedule, it is keeping its tradition of pairing the past three major winners together on Thursday and Friday.

That means that Tiger Woods, Brooks Koepka, and Francesco Molinari will play their first two rounds together at Bethpage Black. The pairing is interesting on several levels.

For starters, at last year’s PGA Championship (won by Brooks) Tiger made a Sunday charge to finish second. In addition, while Tiger won this year’s Masters all three had legitimate chances to win on the back 9 on Sunday. Molinari was the 54-hole leader and looked like he was going to cash in until he hit his tee shot into Rae’s Creek on 12. Koepka also hit is tee shot into the water on 12, effectively ending any chance he had of slipping on the Green Jacket as well.

The PGA Championship gets underway May 16 at Bethpage State Park in Farmingdale, NY. The rest of the featured groups will be announced next Friday.
