Jim Furyk refutes Patrick Reed’s claims about Spieth and about Brooks-DJ altercation

Jim Furyk appeared on Golf Channel on Monday morning and refuted Patrick Reed’s claims that he was surprised by not being paired with Jordan Spieth.

“When I started looking at who (Tiger) would pair well with, I kept coming back to Patrick Reed,” Furyk said. “There was always the idea that we could go Tiger and JT (Justin Thomas), and Patrick and Jordan, but ultimately they knew going into the week, weeks in advance, they knew they would start the Ryder Cup with Patrick and Tiger being partners.”

Well well, Patrick Reed lied about not knowing ahead of time that he was going to be paired with Tiger. What a surprise.

Reed’s lone-wolf stature on the Tour has grown immensely and this probably hasn’t helped his case in making any friends. The guy is not only full of himself, but straight up lying.

Furyk didn’t stop there and also commented on the Bash Bros altercation that Brooks claimed was “made up.”

“Whatever altercation started, or what happened, it was very brief. It was very short. Neither one of them really took anything out of it,” Furyk said. “They’re like brothers. Brothers may argue, brothers get into it. But they’re as close as they’ve ever been, and it really had no effect on either one of them.”

At this point it’s very difficult not to feel sorry for Furyk. He’s a class act and the team could have used him as a player more than as a captain considering his ball-striking prowess.

Sadly, that’s not what happened and we are left sifting through the ashes of a beat down by the European team that brought out the worst in several PGA Tour players.

Furyk did stand by his guys though. Probably because he is such a class act.

“I’d take those 12 players into the fire any day, on any course. And I still would,” Furyk said. “Last week didn’t work out the way we wanted, but I love those guys and I love what we had together in the team room. And I’d do it all over again.”

If you’re up for captaincy of the U.S. Ryder Cup team, why would you even take on the task at this point? These guys are clearly so full of themselves that they don’t care about who they throw under the bus. They’ll lie in an attempt to make themselves look better and then go on with their lives making millions as if nothing ever happened.
