The legend of Jeff Knox continues to grow.
Knox has become famous in the golf world over the past few years, serving as a playing marker during the Masters when an odd number of players make the cut. His legend has only continued to grow as he has held his own at Augusta while teeing it up with the professionals.
While he does not keep a scorecard, it is believed that he has beaten several pros over the years, including Rory Mcllroy in 2014. As a result, many pros have requested to play with Knox when they visit Augusta National to play practice rounds.
So, while the rest of the golf world was in Mexico City last week for the WGC-Mexico Championship, Rory was at Augusta on a Masters scouting trip and teed it up with Knox.
As for how their little “rematch” went? Well, according to Rory, Knox got the better of him again.
“I lost that match on the first tee,” McIlroy told reports Wednesday at the Valspar Championship.
While he might have lost the match to Knox, Mcllroy said it was a successful scouting trip.
“Conditions were good. Feel like every week they ramp it up,” he said. “The golf course is in great shape. They probably could have turned on the sub-air system and could have had the tournament in a couple of days’ time.”
Rory will look to complete the career Grand Slam at the Masters and said he feels ready to go.
“Totally ready,” McIlroy said. “I’d be happy to go to Augusta tomorrow and play, and feel like I have a good chance.”
