PGA pencils in August as potential dates for PGA Championship

The PGA of America has penciled in August 6-9 as the new potential dates for the PGA Championship. The tournament, which was originally schedule for May 14-17 at Harding Park in San Francisco was postponed due to COVID-19.

The issue is that virus numbers are continuing to increase in the United States and August doesn’t seem like it will actually happen.

“Our decision on that basis here in the state of California will be determined by the facts, will be determined by the health experts, will be determined by our ability to meet this moment and bend this curve, and have the appropriate community surveillance and testing to confidently determine whether that’s appropriate,” said Governor of California Gavin Newsom. “Right now, I’m just focusing on the immediate, but that (NFL games in stadiums) is not something I anticipate happening in the next few months.”

It seems more likely that sports will resume in September when the NFL season kicks off like President Donald Trump said in a call with sports commissioners over the weekend.

The U.S. Open, which is scheduled for mid-June, is still scheduled to be played at that time, which is a little bit ridiculous at this point considering even The Open Championship has been postponed.
