President Trump held a call with sports commissioners

President Donald Trump met with the heads of all major sports leagues including PGA Tour commissioner Jay Monahan and LPGA commissioner Michael Whan in a call on Saturday. According to ESPN, the president informed NFL commissioner Roger Goodell that the season should start on time in September.

“I want fans back in the arenas whenever we’re ready and as soon as we can,” the president said in his daily press briefing. “The fans want to be back. They want to see basketball and baseball and football and hockey. They want to see their sports. They want to go out on the golf courses and breath nice, clean, beautiful fresh air. I can’t tell you a date [when sports will start again], but I think it’s going to be sooner rather than later.”

Personally, I don’t know if this is going to happen. At the current rate that COVID-19 cases are popping up, it seems kind of far-fetched to believe that stadiums full of 50,000-100,000 will be filling up on Saturdays and Sundays any time soon.

Of course, maybe all of this social distancing will work and the curve will trend down sooner than expected, but right now it’s probably best to make your peace with the fact that there may not be any more sports for the rest of the year.
