What Are We Supposed To Do While Golf Is On Hiatus

As golf fans we have been trained to expect golf on our TV year round thanks in large part to the PGA Tour’s wrap-around schedule. As a result, in times like these, golf being temporarily suspended might be hitting golf fans a little harder than fans of other sports.

Sure, normally during the year when there are those few off weeks on the golf calendar we, as golf fans, can just tune into one of the many other sports that is on tv at a given time. However, with the entire sports world shut down at the moment, we start asking ourselves “What are we supposed to do while there is no golf on TV?”

Since many of us are stuck at home for the foreseeable future, here are a few things that you can do to help pass the time while we wait for not just golf to return, but the world as we know it to return to normal.

Play Golf

It’s important to note here that no everyone has that luxury right now. Many municipalities have begun shutting everything down and that includes golf courses. However, if you live in an area where golf courses are remaining open get out of the house and play a round. What better what to practice “social distancing”, breathe some fresh air, and get a little exercise then going to the golf course? Golf is great in that you are required to be separated by the person, or people, in front of you by much more than 6 feet. If you choose to play with a group of people, walk the course or take separate golf carts to fulfill the 6 feet rule.

Binge Watch Some Shows

Streaming services, such as Netflix, were created for this exact situation. Has everyone been telling you that you need to watch a certain show? There has never been a better time than now to binge watching something enjoyable to take your mind off of everything that is going on outside.

Read a Book

For those of you that aren’t big TV watchers we haven’t forgotten about you. The key right now is do to things that can both pass the time and take your mind off of everything going on out in the world. If you prefer to read a book over watching TV then kick your feet up and crack open that new book you have been wanting to read but haven’t had the time to read up until now.

Go For A Walk or Bike Ride

It’s important to get out of the house and get some exercise and breathe some fresh air. If golf isn’t an option for you, it’s still important to get out for at least a little every day and do something. Go for a walk or run. Ride your bike around the neighborhood. Stand in your yard and practice swinging clubs. Just do something to get out of your house so you don’t go crazy.

While there are some tough times ahead of us it’s important to remember that there is a light at the end of the tunnel. The world will eventually return to normal and the golf season will eventually resume. We are all in this together and will get through it.

Here at The Stiff Shaft, we will continue to provide you the latest in golf news and it happens. We hope everyone stays safe and healthy.
