Well, here we are again talking about Patrick Reed and shenanigans from his “camp.”
On Saturday, at Royal Melbourne where the US Presidents Cup team is currently losing to the Internationals, Patrick Reed’s caddie, Kessler Karain – the brother of Reed’s wife Justine – punched a fan.
If you think I’m joking, I’m not.
Per ESPN’s Michael Collins:
In a statement to ESPN’s Michael Collins, Karain admitted to shoving a fan, who he said was just a few feet away from Reed and him as they were riding a cart and told the U.S. player, “You f—ing suck.”
“As a caddie, one of your jobs is to protect your player. And unlike several other sports, in golf fans can get pretty close to Athletes,” Karain said as part of his statement. “We have been known for having fun with some good banter, but after hearing several fans in Australia for 3 days some had taken it too far, I had enough. And this gentleman was one of them.
“I got off the cart and shoved him, said a couple things, probably a few expletives. Security came and I got back in [the] cart and left. I don’t think there’s one caddie I know that could blame me.”
Karain told Collins that many fans have been using vulgar language at Royal Melbourne with no response or repercussions from security.
Wow, what a surprise that fans have been calling out Patrick Reed. I mean, it’s not like he was just caught on camera deliberately cheating or anything … right?
While Karain may think that it’s his job to protect his player, he cannot go into the crowd and start fighting fans. Pointing them out to security, like the Reeds have done many many many many times before is fine, but punching/shoving a fan? Get out of here.
Because of his actions, Karain won’t be allowed to caddie for Reed on Sunday:
The Reeds have shown they have very little class or respect for the game over the last month.
There has been no statement from Reed or his partner Webb Simpson, who is by far the complete opposite of Reed in that he is a really “nice guy” because the two weren’t made available to the media.
Note… I’m betting that Tiger is very much regretting his decision to keep Reed on the team.
At this point, I’m not sure if Reed is going to be able to repair the damage he’s done to his image over his lifetime. He doesn’t care that no one likes him and that’s fine, but he and his family HAVE to respect the game or fans will continue to make his life a living hell.
