Tony Romo falls short of cut at the Safeway Open, is available for CBS’ NFL game

Tony Romo’s shot at PGA Tour glory will have to come another day.

After posting an opening round two-under, 70, on Thursday at the Safeway Open, Romo wasn’t able to perform quite as well on Friday. With nine bogeys and three birdies, the former Dallas Cowboys quarterback turned CBS NFL commentator carded a 78 and dropped to four-over.

The cut was two-under, so Romo was clearly out of the hunt.

Romo can take some solace in the fact that there were plenty of other PGA Tour members who have had great careers who didn’t make the cut, including Kevin Na, Sung Kang, Charley Hoffman, Phil Mickelson, (my pick – I knew I should have gone with Bryson) Hideki Matsuyama, Jason Dufner, John Daly, and Fred Couples.

While there will be plenty who rip Romo for even attempting to make any kind of run at a PGA Tour event, he has proven that he’s pretty good at the game.

Life isn’t so bad for Romo though, as he’ll now board a plane for Chicago where he will call the Vikings @ Bears game at 4:25 PM ET on CBS.

PS – He’s pretty good at that too.
