Tony Romo may need to just focus on getting that huge CBS contract

It may be time for Tony Romo to focus on getting that huge contract from CBS that he’s looking for instead of attempting to make it on the PGA Tour.

Romo entered into the Corales Puntacana Resort & Club Championship, the opposite field event from the WGC-Dell Match Play this week, for the second straight year on a sponsor’s exemption. Romo’s 2018 appearance at this event didn’t go so well. He missed the cut by a mile.

This year, it appears to be headed in the same direction. After a first round 79, Romo is currently seven-over and will need a miracle to make the cut that currently sits at even par.

“I think it’s somewhat nerves early on,” Romo said. “Missed a few short putts that you feel you normally make, and then just a bad swing on 8 that cost me a triple-bogey. Hard to make birdies out here, just the wind.

“I think you want to really compete with yourself, see how good you can get,” Romo said. “I play with a lot of these guys, you see how talented they are and how good. The thing that stands out is the consistency, the ability to do it over and over again. In this game, one or two swings costs you a day. Today, that was a little bit of my day.”

While it’s fun for us to see Romo attempt to make it in these events, it may be time to just move on from the show, and trust me when I say that I understand why tournaments may want a Romo or Steph Curry to play in their events but it really just isn’t worth watching these guys get blown out of the water by guys who are trying to actually live off these appearances.

We’ll see how he does at the AT&T Byron Nelson in May.
