Tony Romo will play in the AT&T Byron Nelson

Tony Romo’s foray in to professional golf at the alternate field event Corales Puntacana Resort & Club Championship in 2018 didn’t go so well. Romo missed the cut by 16-strokes and really didn’t play well. We documented some of it on this site.

Since then, Romo has collected a few amateur wins. He won the Racine Tri-Course Amateur Championship in July by nine strokes and the American Century Championship as well later that month.

Romo also made it out of the first round of Q-School, which is pretty impressive even if he only did so because a player ahead of him had an incorrect score card.

This season, Romo, who just played in the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am and hit one of the more memorable shots, will play in the AT&T Byron Nelson at Trinity Forest – his home course – which is taking place the week prior to the PGA Championship thanks to the new PGA Tour schedule.

“Following his summer successes, the timing feels perfect” said AT&T Byron Nelson Tournament Director, Jon Drago. “Romo is a legendary competitor, member of Trinity Forest, and long-time friend of AT&T and the Salesmanship Club of Dallas. We look forward to watching him put his talents to test while competing against the best in the game of golf.”

“Golf is one of my greatest passions outside my family and football, and I am honored to have the opportunity to compete amongst the pros again in this year’s AT&T Byron Nelson,” said Romo.

While there’s no telling how strong the field will be with the PGA being the week after, but we do know that Jordan Spieth will also be there and I expect it will be stronger than the alternate event he participated in last season.
