John Peterson’s Career Comes To An End At the Greenbrier

For John Peterson, the sky was supposed to be the limit.

A decorated collegiate golfer out of LSU, many felt he was the most talented to come out of Baton Rouge since David Toms. Everyone expected greeat things out of Peterson. Unfortunately, for one reason or another, none of that panned out.

The wins that he was supposed to rack up on the PGA Tour? They never came. The didn’t come on the Web.com Tour either. In fact, as a professional Peterson only recorded one win, the 2012 Coca-Cola Walmart Open on the Adams Tour.

While Peterson will tell you that the motivation just wasn’t there as a professional golfer, he certainly didn’t get any help on the health side either. Injuries largely derailed his career, making it tough to get anything going.

Peterson decided to give it one more go though. The ultimatum was simple too. Play good enough in the six starts of the major medical exemption to earn some sort of status on the PGA Tour going forward, or hang them up for good.

Well, those six starts came and went, and Petson fell short of earning any status, meaning his career as a pro golfer is over.

For what it’s worth though, Peterson went down swinging. Heading into his final start this past week at A Military Tribute at The Greenbrier he needed 55 FedExCup Points to stick around. That equated to approximately a T-12 finish. He finished in an eight-way tie for 13th, missing out by a mere fractions of a point.

To put that into persepctive, that .58th of a point equates to something so small as a single putt dropping or not dropping over the course of those six events.

For Peterson the dream is over. He is off to sell real estate in his home state of Texas, and we are all left wondering, “what if”.
