Bryson DeChambeau pushing the PGA Tour by using a compass during Travelers

Bryson DeChambeau is undoubtedly very smart, however, with that comes a desire to be better than everyone else by using ridiculous techniques and methods.

On Saturday at the Travelers Championship, DeChambeau was caught by cameras using a freaking compass to, as he put it, “figure out true pin locations.”

“The pin locations are just a little bit off every once in a while, and so I’m making sure they’re in the exact right spot. And that’s it.”

Look guy, this is just proving why the rest of us think you are a sideshow. Add this to your use of The Golfing Machine, and attempted side-saddle putting style, as well as whatever other gadgets you use regularly to make yourself stand out.

No one in their right mind believes that the pin locations are off so far that you have to break out a compass and do math during your round to make sure they are within 1-2 inches of where they are said to be.

DeChambeau was approached after his round and told that his use of the device was under investigation by the PGA Tour.

“They said, ‘Hey, we just want to let you know that we’re investigating the device and seeing if it’s allowable,’” DeChambeau said. “I understand. It wouldn’t be the first time this has happened.”

“It’s a compass. It’s been used for a long, long time. Sailors use it,” DeChambeau said. “It’s just funny that people take notice when I start putting and playing well.”

I’m not here to tell Bryson what to do because he has won two PGA Tour events, however, no one is taking notice of the use of a compass because he is “putting and playing well,” they notice because he insists on throwing these things in our faces to make himself appear like some sort of golf genius.

It’s time to ban this as well as green books and whatever the hell else is in this guy’s desk.
