The U.S. Open has come and gone and now it’s time to turn our attention to Hartford, Connecticut and the Travelers Championship. With the U.S. Open being just down the road from Hartford in New York, the tournament boasts quite the field with nine of the top 20 in the world and three reigning major winners. Since this week’s Tour stop is in Hartford too, here’s a little nastlgia for you:
Now, without further ado, here’s who we like this week:

After what we saw last week at Shinnecock it’s anyone’s guess how anyone’s game really is right now. Dustin Johnson looked to be cruising for the second week in a row until he wasn’t. Brooks Koepka looked to be an afterthought of the week, until he wasn’t. One of the guys that looked to be making a run late but came up short is the defending Masters champion Patrick Reed. Obviously Reed has had a pretty darn good 2018 so far (hello, Green jacket). For no other reason than he was hanging around the top of the leaderboard at a place like Shinnecock last week, I’m going to take him this week. At least the course should be easier for him.
The Stiff Shaft
I’m going to go with one of the guys who missed the cut last week at Shinnecock and pick the defending champion, Jordan Spieth.
Of course, I am reserving the right to change my mind after the first round if he is still sucking it up with the flat stick, but he’s a bounce-back kinda guy and after beating Daniel Berger last year in a playoff that featured a club throw celebration … why not?
