Bus Traveling To Masters Crashes, Passengers Injured

A bus carrying fans that were traveling to Augusta National Thursday morning for the opening round of the 2018 Masters flipped, injuring several of the people on board.

Georgia State Patrol officials told news outlets that the bus carrying 18 people crashed on Interstate 20 around 8:45 a.m. Thursday. 61-year-old Steven Hoppenbrouwer was driving the bus and has been charged with DUI and failure to maintain lane.

Authorities say Hoppenbrouwer ran off the side of the road and overcorrected before the bus overturned on the median.

According to local news outlet WJBF-TV, five patients were seriously injured and two are in fair condition and are being treated at Augusta University Medical Center. Additionally, seven other people are either in fair or critical condition and are being treated at an undisclosed hospital.

We will update this post as more information becomes available.
