D Money
This week the Tour travels to Mexico for the WGC Mexico Championship. It’s a chance for some of the top golfers in the world to go to Mexico for a no-cut limited field cash grab. Last place this week pockets a cool $50,000 for their troubles. Coming off my winning pick of JT last week, I’m going to try and keep the streak going with Dustin Johnson this week.
Not only is DJ the defending champ heading into this week, he has also won the event twice in the last three years dating back to when it was held at Doral. He has the second most wins in WGC history, trailing only Tiger. He gets one closer to Tiger’s record this week.
The Stiff Shaft
The hot name right now is Tommy Fleetwood, however, with Johnson, Rahm, Thomas, and Spieth all in the field, there’s just no way I can pick him to win this week even though he finished solo second last year.
So, who am I picking?
Good question. I’ve thought about this one for a while now and while I’d like to go with DJ, my boy D Money did so I’ll pick someone else just for the hell of it.
Enter Jon Rahm. A T3 last season, which very easily could have been a win, at this event seems like a solid choice. Rahm also has a solo second finish at the Tournament of Champions and a win at teh CareerBuilder Challenge under his belt this season. It’s not like he’s been struggling even though his highest finish in his last three events is T11.
Plus, this course sets up well for the long hitters with the thin air in Mexico City.
Take it to the bank … don’t really … Rahm is your winner this week and I am knocking D Money off of his high horse since he picked last week’s winner correctly!
