Lydia Ko Shuts Down Twitter Account

Lydia Ko became the second professional golfer this week to shut down his/her Twitter account, albeit for a different reason.

On Monday, Web.com Tour golfer Lee McCoy shut his twitter account down after being roasted for complaining among other things that kids in Columbia who came out to watch him play last weekend were asking him for free stuff.

On Wednesday, Ko shut down her account, although she says it has nothing to do with criticism.

“I didn’t necessarily close it just because of all the criticism,” she said after the first round of the ISPS Handa Women’s Australian Open. “I actually don’t know [the criticism], because I haven’t checked. I actually did it because I wasn’t really on Twitter that much. I actually spend most of my social media time on Instagram. So, all I would do is really share from what I had on Instagram. That was kind of the reason why, it was taking up storage on my phone, too. I was like, there’s no point me having it when I wasn’t interacting with my fans there, anyway.”

The criticism in question comes from the fact that Ko once again overhauled her entire golf inner circle once again. She has brought on Ted Oh as her new coach, replacing Gary Gilchrist, and Jonny Scott as her new caddie, replacing Peter Godfrey.

Ko fired an opening round 4-under 68 in her 2018 LPGA Tour debut.
