Farmers Insurance Open coverage won’t be affected by Golf Channel labor dispute

The Golf Channel and their camera and technical crews are in the middle of a labor dispute. The union is schedule to vote on a new contract this week. However, if the issue is not resolved it will not affect coverage of the Farmers Insurance Open this weekend. That’s important because Tiger will be making his return to the PGA Tour this week and obviously there will be a lot of eyes on the coverage, which has struggled over the last few weeks.

Golf Channel can avoid any mishaps this week because the CBS crews which are a part of a separate union will be handling the coverage. This also happens when tournaments are on NBC so the strike is only affecting Golf Channel only broadcasts.

Golf Channel gave the following response when asked about the coverage this weekend.

“The labor dispute only involves Golf Channel only tournaments. CBS/Golf Channel events, like this week, will be unaffected – as are NBC/Golf Channel events – as different unions work on those events.”

Good news Tiger fans, you won’t miss a shot … until CBS decides to break for commercial in his backswing.
