Tiger Woods is back and that has inspired some of the younger guys on the PGA Tour who have yet to play with one of the greatest golfers to ever play the game.
Justin Thomas, 2017 PGA Championship winner and FedExCup winner, believes that Tiger can still win a major championship.
Via Golfweek: “If he’s healthy, there’s no reason he wouldn’t [win another Masters],” Thomas said Monday during a teleconference for the Sentry Tournament of Champions, which Thomas won last year at Kapalua.
“That’s a place that if you know the place well or as well as he does – there’s a reason that Freddie plays well there for so long and Bernhard Langer and Larry Mize have had great rounds there at last couple years – it’s just such an advantage in knowing the course. The more you play it, it really just makes a world of difference.
“… I’ve argued with my dad for so long, and I still do, and he doesn’t bring it up as much. But the golf ball doesn’t know how old you are. There’s no reason that because you’re a certain age or you’re this or that, it doesn’t mean you can’t do something.”
But while Thomas is interested in seeing Tiger on the course going for another major, the goat, Jack Nicklaus, is not.
Nicklaus told Golfweek during the PNC Father/Son Challenge that he isn’t interested in watching Tiger play golf. As a matter of fact, he isn’t interested in watching anyone play golf.
“I’m not interested at all.”
“Do I wish [Tiger] well? Yeah, but I’m not interested in watching him,” Nicklaus said. “I’ve watched him play golf for 20-something years, why would I want to go watch more? I don’t watch anybody play golf.”
That’s quite interesting right?
Jack owns the record for major championship wins at 18 and Tiger is sitting at 14. Most golf fans want to see Tiger give Jack a run for his money because it’s not only entertaining, but is, well, entertaining.
Will Tiger win another major? Who’s to say? Henrik Stenson just won his first at the age of 41, Tiger turns 42 this month, and Jack won won at the age of 46.
