Sergio Garcia finally offered a full apology for his bunker tantrum

Sergio Garcia’s bunker tantrum was a very bad look for him. It showed that he still hasn’t learned to control his temper and even though that’s all we saw from him at the Saudi International, it wasn’t even the worst thing he did. He damaged five greens out of anger and literally left divots in them.

That is unacceptable behavior and many, including myself, believe that Sergio should be suspended and take some time to think about his actions. However, European Tour Chief Executive Keith Pelley didn’t do that and basically just brushed it all off.

This week, Sergio is appearing in the Genesis Open where he will likely receive a not so warm welcome. Knowing this, he offered up a full apology for his actions through his Instagram account.

“I’ve obviously had some time to reflect, and want to again say I’m sorry to my fans and fellow competitors,” Garcia wrote. “What happened is not an example I want to set, and it’s not who I truly am.”

I disagree. This is the same guy we saw angrily spit in the cup once.

“I am an emotional player, and while I believe that’s one of my biggest strengths, it’s also one of my biggest flaws,” Garcia wrote. “I’m focused on working hard to channel that emotion the correct way and to be the best me, learn from it and move forward.”

Happy to be in my first @pgatour event of the season and have my brother on the bag again this year. I’ve obviously had some time to reflect, and want to again say I’m sorry to my fans and fellow competitors. What happened is not an example I want to set, and it's not who I truly am. I am an emotional player and while I believe that's one of my biggest strengths, it's also one of my biggest flaws. I’m focused on working hard to channel that emotion the correct way and to be the best me, learn from it and move forward. Thanks for all the support.

Sorry, Sergio, but we won’t be forgetting what you did any time soon.
