For Dustin Johnson, the U.S. Open Is His To Lose

When he’s at his best, Dustin Johnson is tough to beat.

While he’s always been like that to an extent given his streak of consective wins with at least 1 win, the past few years he has really turned it on. He started focusing on his short game, and with that the majors came. These days it seems like if his game is clicking on all cylinders, it’s game over for the rest of the field.

Well folks, Dustin Johnson’s cylinders are clicking and guess what? The U.S. Open is officially over.

This week some of the best golfers in the world have shown us that Shinnecock Hills is an almost impossible test. Dustin Johnson? Well, he’s the only golfer in the field heading into the weekend under par.

Shinnecock Hills this week has shown that if you are not precise to a tee, it will chew you up and spit you out. Dustin Johnson? Well, he just heads into the weekend with a four shot lead.

See for Dustin Johnson, Shinnecock is just another golf course. And that’s why this tournament is over, unless Johnson says it isn’t.

Sure, someone could give him a momentary run for his money. Russell Henley did it on Thursday and for the early part of Friday. Even Ian Poulter got within one of Dustin late in the day on Friday. Both of them suffered triple bogeys ironically enough when they started seriously approaching DJ.

It doesn’t matter though. As long as DJ continues his stellar play, nobody is going to win this U.S. Open. Unless, of course, his name is Dustin Johnson.
